Let's Talk a Little About 'Domain Name System' (DNS - Part 1)
Hi !
If there’s one network protocol I find fascinating, not just because of the possibilities it offers in terms of attack and defense capabilities, it’s DNS.
I won’t go into detail (for now) about the mechanisms that can benefit hackers in this blog for two reasons:
- First, because a simple search on your favorite search engine will provide you with a plethora of links.
- Second, I always try to visually represent concrete applications of what I write, so this will focus on identifying issues related to the protocol in question.
As proof of this, if any were needed, the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) has just released a new version of its guide on DNS security. Here is the link: https://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/SpecialPublications/NIST.SP.800-81r3.pdf
The next blog posts will focus on these kinds of topics to show how to visually grasp the concepts.
Cheers.
